Full circle for ICAS Foundation alumna
As part of our partnership with the ICAS Foundation, members of our team provide expert advice and support to students as mentors. This is in addition to our financial support and fundraising activities each year, which provide bursaries for students studying accountancy or finance at university.
This year, team member and ICAS Foundation alumna Emma Mathieson is giving back to the initiative that helped launch her career. In addition to her role as a mentor, Emma is using her experience as a Foundation student and successful Chartered Accountant (CA) to help the Foundation assess first-round applications to the programme for the upcoming academic year.

A rewarding way to give back to the ICAS Foundation
It is very rewarding to be giving back to the ICAS Foundation, both as a mentor and a member of the student assessment panel. For me, it’s a way of showing gratitude and appreciation for the help I received whilst studying and completing my CA training with Consilium.
On a personal level, the ICAS Foundation gave me invaluable support and opportunities. The significance of this has only become more apparent to me as I’ve progressed within the accountancy profession. You cannot overestimate the importance of the help and pathways provided by the Foundation and my firm, Consilium, through university, internships, and professional studies with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS).

As a Foundation graduate, I appreciate the wide range of benefits that being accepted onto the programme offers. It is not just the financial support; it is the mentorship from experienced CAs, the access to real internships and opportunities that make such a difference.
Seeing the work of the Foundation and Consilium, whether that be through funding for bursaries, paid internships, or insight events, the partnership helps build a stronger profession for the future.
