Meet the Interns: BBQs, jigsaws and a bit of accountancy

Earlier this summer, we caught up with our class of 2025 summer interns – Anneliese, Caoimhe, and Leah. As they come to the end of their paid internships with Consilium, we found out how it went.

What were the highlights of your internship with Consilium?

Leah: Without a doubt, it’s been the people! Their support and encouragement made every day a positive learning experience. Everyone was happy to help and share their knowledge, making my time here rewarding and enjoyable. The social events were also a great way to connect with the team outside of work.

Anneliese: I’ve learned so much, but I’ve also really enjoyed being in the Consilium office! During lunch times, we’ve been competing to complete jigsaws. Everyone got involved, and it was all great fun! It could get quite intense at times!

Caoimhe: The main highlight has been the opportunity to work with such a knowledgeable and welcoming team. The atmosphere is supportive and collaborative, making it easier to learn. I felt comfortable asking for help, and the social events, like the summer BBQ, were a great chance to socialise with my colleagues.

What are you going to be taking away from your time?

Anneliese: That you don’t have to hate your job!

Leah: I’m leaving with a stronger understanding of Audit processes and professional standards. I’ve also gained a lot of confidence by speaking to clients, writing professional emails and using specialist Audit software. All of it will be a huge help going into my final year at university.

Caoimhe: It has opened my eyes to the professional, fast-paced work environment. Seeing how different teams collaborate and the importance of attention to detail has been a great insight. The feedback I received and lessons learned will stay with me as I progress in my career.

How do you think you’re experience with Consilium will help the next stage of your career?

Caoimhe: Moving forward, I can now approach my studies with a more applied mindset. I also now feel better prepared to complete my final year at university. It has been an invaluable experience and provided great context around what I have already learned at uni.

Leah: I’m heading into my final year at university, studying modules on Audit and Advanced Financial reporting and completing my dissertation. The practical experience I’ve gained feels like a big head start, especially for the technical and applied parts of my coursework.

Anneliese: I have a good understanding of how to complete the Audit process and specific Audit tasks. I’m sure I’ll be able to use this experience to help with my Audit module back at university.

Could you see yourself working and studying at Consilium after graduation?

Leah: Absolutely! I’ve been offered a graduate role at Consilium after graduation, and I’ll definitely be accepting. I am excited for the future and even happier that it’ll be with Consilium.

Anneliese: I’ve found Consilium very welcoming, and everyone is more than willing to help when you’re struggling with something. The environment here is something I could see myself being a part of in the future.

Caoimhe: It would be a privilege to come back to Consilium and begin my professional career with such a wonderful group of people. I can see the importance and significance the whole Consilium team puts on their core values of Advice, Integrity, Teamwork and Progressive. It is an ideal place to work.
