Corporate Social Responsibility
We believe helping businesses thrive should not come at the expense of people, society or the environment. Consilium Chartered Accountants are therefore committed to business practices that uphold our values and help us be a responsible company.
All of our endeavours are built upon three responsibility pillars that reflect our company values and underpin our actions:
Human responsibilities
A cornerstone of Consilium’s business activities is a commitment to diversity within the workplace and social mobility. This is reflected in our recruitment processes and long-term support of the ICAS Foundation – a charity supporting social mobility, and ethnic and gender diversity in students studying at university.
Through mentoring and bursaries, the Foundation and Consilium support young people from socially disadvantaged communities to study accountancy and finance. Team members mentor students from the Foundation and we provide paid summer internships.
We are proud to be a Living Wage employer and a company that actively works to create an environment of gender-neutral remuneration. Our vision of social mobility is also reflected in our work as a training firm; providing pathways to professional qualifications for school leavers.
Supporting our greatest assets – our people
At Consilium we are committed to our colleagues and our core values reflect this. Health and wellbeing is not just a phrase as we provide tailored benefits packages to all our staff that reflect what they need to be at their best.
We have fully embraced the opportunities presented by flexible working, ensuring colleagues can achieve a meaningful work-life balance and benefit from hybrid and work-from-home options.
Environmental responsibilities
We have actively taken steps to reduce our environmental impact as a company. Simple but impactful changes like moving to a paperless office, switching to electronic invoicing/payment, and car sharing have helped us reduce our carbon footprint.
Recycling is embedded into Consilium’s work practices. Office materials, consumables, batteries, and IT equipment are recycled as standard, and our colleagues are committed to using no disposable food or beverage containers in the workplace.
Consilium’s Glasgow office features energy and water-saving systems, helping to reduce both consumption and wastage. Combined with our extensive use of remote working technology, we continuously reduce our environmental impact inside and outside the office.
Philanthropic responsibilities
As a successful business, we have the opportunity and responsibility to assist good causes in their missions. Our philanthropic efforts support a diverse range of charities that are close to the hearts of our colleagues and their families.
From embracing Christmas Jumper Day with gusto to raising essential funds for cancer research, we are committed to philanthropic efforts. Since our creation, we have actively fundraised and supported multiple charities including:
- Save the Children
- Alzheimer Scotland
- The Beatson Cancer Charity
- MacMillan Cancer Support
- CHAS (Children’s Hospices Across Scotland)
- Coeliac UK
- The Wooden Spoon Foundation
Consilium’s Volunteering Initiative
Our commitment to assisting good causes now includes our Volunteering Initiative, launched during Volunteers’ Week 2024.
Consilium Chartered Accountants will provide every employee with a paid day per year of volunteering leave. The time will be used to support the vital work of charities and not-for-profit organisations close to the hearts of our team members or our existing charity clients and partners.
Keep an eye on our social channels for updates on how the Consilium Team are helping good causes through our Volunteering Initiative.
